Fuel your defense
Make sure you go all the way to the end. I’m putting up a poll for you to vote on!
You know that eating junk is bad. I know you know that. Vegetable oils, anything fried, poor quality meat and animal products, dairy, sugar, refined flour, gluten, food additives, preservatives, chemicals, artificial colors… all these things cause serious diseases from cancer, to autism, to alzheimer’s, to seizures, to MS. Are you getting the picture?
So if your diet is cereal or a bagel or a breakfast mc muffin in the morning, a sandwich or burger or fries or pizza for lunch, a bag of chips or a doughnut for a snack, and take out or chinese or drive thru or more pizza for dinner. You are actively trying to kill yourself. Slowly and expensively. However your Dr. the pharmacutical CEO and the government thank you. You are who funds their private jets, sweet cars, third wives, yahts, and world travel.
THIS IS NOT YOUR FAULT! I don’t want you to be a victim. You have the power to change all this. There is help out there, people like myself world wide, ready and willing to help you every step of the way!
Marketing is a science and they know just how to get to you. Those foods are created in a lab where they study the pleasure and addiction centers in your brain. When they create a food that lights them up like a Christmas tree, they put it in a colorful package, tell you that it’s good for you and sell it! You are literally addicted to those foods. Sugars, gluten those things set off the same reactions in your brain as if you had just hit the opium pipe, or shot up heroin.
I’m not going into this for this series, but take a look at this article if you’d like to know more.
Dr. Mark Hyman is a well respected man in the health and wellness field. Here’s an article by him called Food Addiction: http://drhyman.com/blog/2011/02/04/food-addiction-could-it-explain-why-70-percent-of-america-is-fat/#close
Here’s a subject heading from the article: Let’s examine the research and the similarities between high-sugar, energy-dense, fatty and salty processed junk food and cocaine, heroin, and nicotine. |
However it becomes your fault when you know that you need to make changes and you don’t start taking steps.
I don’t coach my clients from a “stop eating this” standpoint. I coach from a “let’s add this in” perspective. Let’s pretend your my client and you want to avoid a future diagnosis of breast cancer. If you’ve been diagnosed then this is even more important for you!
So what do we add in?
THE TWO MOST IMPORTANT THINGS YOU CAN ADD:
1. VEGGIES!
2. SPICES!
The bolder the colors the better! The compounds in all those colorful veggies and spices help your DNA heal, they give your cells powerful healing ability.
If you can cook with a little turmeric everyday you would be well on your way! The crazy yellow spice is one of the most powerful cancer fighting drug in the world. Even more powerful than most actual cancer drugs.
Spicy foods are also good! Add a little kick and know you’re doing a good thing for your body.
If your diet looks like the above, what we call the Standard American Diet or SAD this is where you need to start:

Additionally, many studies show that exercising more than 1 hour each week (a little as 30 minutes of walking 3 days a week), eating generous amounts of fruits and vegetables, losing excess body fat, and maintaining low stress levels all reduce the risk.
Both increased body weight and weight gain as an adult are linked with a higher risk of breast cancer after menopause. Alcohol also increases risk of breast cancer. Even low levels of alcohol intake have been linked with an increase in risk.
I know that NO ONE wants to hear stop drinking. But there it is! There are multiple studies out there that say 3 drinks per week (no, a long island ice tea does not count as one) will increase your risk of breast cancer by 15%, women with a genetic predisposition may be up 50%. The risk goes up another 10% with each added drink per week.
I’m sorry. I didn’t want to stop drinking either. But I did. I’m not a saint, I still have the occasional glass of something but it’s more like once a month. I’m not going to lie to you, it took 2 years for me to get there. I was down to a drink a week when my sisters recent diagnosis finished me off.
Good news about fat!
This doesn’t mean you can go eat that bag of chips. Remember what I said about vegetable oil and frying. Both HUGE no-nos!
Risk Reduction for Breast Cancer
I removed the citations for my blog, but if you click the link above you will go to the article and all the citations are listed for each and every claim below. I’m not going to put this in italics cause that sucks to read. This is long and sorta scientific. If you want to skip this I get it Read the first list, and know that Vit D, CLA, and Fish Oil are on almost every single list.
These lists are Prevention, Different Ways to Prevent, If a cell has turned to the dark side aka malignant, and reversing malignant cells back to using the power of the force for good. Like Luke’s dad in Star Wars.

Nature’s Cancer-Preventing NutrientsWhat follows are 11 categories of targeted nutrients that have been studied for their impact on breast health and cancer prevention. You can choose what combination of nutrients would be most effective for your situation. At the end of this report is a dosing table.
Most of the nutrients in this list have multiple ways in which they help to prevent cancer. That’s because each individual nutrient has many different biochemical targets in breast cancer prevention. Because cancer has multiple causes and phases of development, scientists are well aware that a multi-targeted approach is the best way to attack a disease like cancer.
1. Nutrients that Prevent DNA DamageBreast cancer, like all others, invariably begins with some change to the DNA structure or function of an individual cell. Both DNA damage and a change in the way a normal gene is expressed can trigger a cell to become malignant. In either case, a tumor suppressor gene can become silenced, allowing unregulated cell replication, or a tumor promoter gene can become activated. However, many nutrients work to prevent the DNA damage that can lead to a cell becoming cancerous.
The list of nutrients proven to have anti-breast cancer effects is long, a tribute to the role of oxidant damage in breast cancer formation. Antioxidant nutrients proven to have anti-breast cancer effects include:
- Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10)
- Coffee and many of its constituents
- Curcumin
- Green tea polyphenols, especially epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG)
- Indole-3-Carbinol (I3C)
- Lycopene
- Melatonin
- Metformin
- N-acetylcysteine (NAC)
- Pomegranate juice and extracts
- Resveratrol
- Selenium
- Silibinin and silymarin
- Soybean flavonoids genistein and diadzein
- Sulforaphane
- Tocotrienols
2. Nutrients that Control Regulatory GenesProcesses called hypermethylation and histone deacetylation can unlock undesirable epigenetic expression or suppress regulatory genes. Fortunately, a number of nutrients block these processes, and therefore can help to prevent the epigenetic changes that lead to breast cancer. These include:
- Omega-3 fatty acids from fish oil
- Lycopene
- Genistein, a soy isoflavone
- Resveratrol
- Caffeic acid, a component of coffee
- Sulforaphane from cruciferous vegetables
3. Nutrients that Fight Cancer-Promoting Inflammation once a cell has become malignant, inflammation is a powerful epigenetic promoter of the next steps in the process of cancerous transformation.60 Nature provides many natural anti-inflammatory molecules with specific promise in breast cancer chemoprevention, including the following:
- Acetylsalicylic acid (aspirin)
- Conjugated linoleic acid (CLA)
- Coffee compounds
- Curcumin
- Omega-3 fatty acids EPA and DHA from fish oil
- Pomegranate extracts
- Quercetin
- Resveratrol
- Vitamin D
4. Nutrients that Block Excessive Cell Replication. The excessive rate of cell replication is one of cancer’s best-known features. Many nutrients are capable of blocking the continuous churning of the cellular replication cycle and slowing or stopping cancer growth, which ultimately contributes to breast cancer chemoprevention through epigenetic means. These include:
- Apigenin, a yellow flavone molecule found in many plants
- Aspirin
- Coffee components
- Indole-3-Carbinol (I3C) from cruciferous vegetables
- Melatonin
- Pterostilbene, a close relative of resveratrol
- Selenium
- Sulforaphane from cruciferous vegetables
5. Nutrients that Transform Malignant Cells Back into Healthy OnesBreast carcinoma
Even after cells have undergone malignant transformation, there’s a chance to reverse that process by forcing them to “differentiate” back into normal tissue-forming cells. Nutrients that promote the differentiation of breast cancer cells include:
- Conjugated linoleic acid (CLA)
- N-acetylcysteine (NAC)
- Vitamin D
6. Nutrients that Trigger the Death of Cancer CellsA powerful natural means of controlling cell replication is the process of apoptosis, or programmed cell death. Normal cells have the ability to self-destruct if they receive signals that they are replicating too rapidly. Malignant cells lose this ability, contributing to their overwhelming growth rate. A number of nutrients have the ability to restore breast cancer cells’ ability to die by apoptosis, including the following:
- Apigenin
- Coffee compounds
- Conjugated linoleic acid (CLA)
- Curcumin
- Green tea polyphenols and EGCG
- Indole-3-Carbinol (I3C)
- Melatonin
- N-acetylcysteine (NAC)
- Pomegranate
- Quercetin
- Selenium
- Silibinin
- Soy Isoflavones
- Tocotrienols
- Vitamin D
7. Nutrients that Restore Receptors that Enhance Standard Treatments Roughly 70% of breast cancer cells depend on a continuous supply of estrogen for their growth, while a smaller number of cancers depend on the growth factor called HER2/neu. These cancers can potentially be treated by interfering with the receptors, making them (at least in theory) less dangerous.
Between 15 and 25% of breast cancers, however, are so-called “triple-negative” cancers, meaning that they lack any of the three receptors (estrogen, progesterone, or HER2/neu), and are correspondingly resistant to treatment. Among the most exciting discoveries in the epigenetics of nutrients for cancer chemoprevention is that many nutrients can restore one or more of those receptors to the surface of breast cancer cells, lowering the bar to effective standard treatments such as the estrogen receptor blocker tamoxifen.
Other nutrients can modify at least one of the receptors, impairing the cells’ ability to receive the growth signals they require, and triggering their early death.
Nutrients (and a drug) capable of epigenetic chemoprevention through modification or restoration of breast cancer receptors, or which have effectiveness against triple negative cancers include:
- Coffee
- Conjugated linoleic acid (CLA)
- Curcumin
- Green tea polyphenols
- Melatonin
- Metformin
- Omega-3 fatty acids from fish oil
- Sulforaphane from cruciferous vegetables
8. Nutrients that Inhibit Estrogen ProductionThe enzyme aromatase is responsible for producing estrogen in body tissues, including breast cells. Therefore, inhibiting aromatase activity is an important means of slowing the growth of the70% of estrogen-dependent breast cancers. Nutrients capable of chemoprevention through aromatase inhibition include:
- Chrysin
- Enterolactone from lignan extract
- Grape seed extract
- Hops extracts
- Melatonin
- Pomegranate
- Vitamin D
Note: aromatase inhibiting drugs like Arimidex® (anastrozole) have far more potent estrogen-suppressing effects, but they lower estrogen so much that they can induce severe menopausal effects.
10. Nutrients that Cut Off the Blood Supply to Growing TumorsOnce a cancer has begun its rapid growth phase, it requires a vast increase in its blood supply. Tumor cells are capable of inducing new blood vessel growth (angiogenesis) through multiple epigenetic mechanisms. A number of nutrients are capable of reversing that process and depriving growing tumors of blood supply. These include:
- Apigenin
- Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10)
- Coffee diterpenes
- Conjugated linoleic acid (CLA)
- Curcumin
- Grape seed extract
- Green tea
- Indole-3-Carbinol (I3C)
- Lycopene
- Melatonin
- N-acetylcysteine (NAC)
- Omega-3 fatty acids
- Pomegranate
- Quercetin
- Silibinin
- Soy isoflavones
- Vitamin D75
11. Nutrients that Prevent Tumors from SpreadingGrowing tumor
Growing tumors develop the ability to invade local and regional tissues, and to “seed” other body areas with malignant cells through the process of metastasis. To accomplish these processes, tumors increase their production of “protein-melting” enzymes calledmatrix metalloproteinases, or MMPs. Effective chemoprevention involves epigenetic changes that impair tumors’ production of MMPs, as is seen in the activities of these nutrients (and drugs):
- Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10)
- Coffee diterpenes and phenolics
- Conjugated linoleic acid (CLA)
- Cruciferous vegetable components sulforaphane and isothiocyanates
- Curcumin
- Green tea polyphenols
- Melatonin
- N-acetylcysteine (NAC)
- Silibinin
- Soy isoflavones
- Compounds that function via other mechanism to inhibit metastasis include:
- Modified citrus pectin143
- Aspirin
- Cimetidine
+Note that cimetidine and modified citrus pectin are only used by those with existing cancers. They have not shown preventive effects.
